The benefits of creating a mobile version of your website

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

  • Wider reach- As of August 2011 mobile browsing accounted for 7.84% of UK internet usage. Can you afford to miss out on making the experience an enjoyable one for these visitors?
  • Quicker load times – The majority of mobile visitors will be browsing your site over the 3G data network. While this method suffices for small tasks like checking email etc, loading a full website can take a long time. Therefore, serving an optimised and more efficient version of the website will help to reduce load times and potential frustration (waiting for websites on your phone can be a pain), especially if they are on a PAYG data plan.

    mobile site = 2.3secs
    desktop site = 5.7secs

  • Design/presentation – After spending hours designing and perfecting your website, it can be disappointing when you look at it for the first time in a mobile browser. The trouble is, the built-in browsers on iOS, Android, and modern Blackberry devices can display full desktop sites, but this doesn’t always have the desired effect and your desktop site which looks great on a laptop can look out of place and are often hard to comprehend and navigate. Offering a mobile version of the site optimised for mobile browsers will allow you to incorporate an improved design which is more user-friendly for visitors with a smaller screen size and appropriate navigation.

Branding gives Altus Adventure the best possible start

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Altus Adventure was launched in Buxton this month by Craig & Laura Offless. Both have led many overseas expeditions to places such as Africa, South America and Asia, including mountaineering trips to the Himalayas, The Andes and the Alps.

Craig and Laura wanted a really strong brand that would make them stand out and immediately differentiate them from the smaller, lone operators that already existed in the market place. They approached First Impression to develop their ideas into a viable brand, a website and company brochure. Laura added “The brand and website First Impression has developed for Altus Adventure is strong and powerful with a corporate feel which should help us break into corporate training”.

First Impression wins national branding contract to brand Buxton College

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

First Impression won a competitive pitch to rebrand Buxton College beating companies from as far away as Yorkshire and London. Buxton College is part of the University of Derby but they wanted their own identity which reflected their heritage and unique Dome where the College is housed. First Impression understood that Buxton College provides an inspiring place to work and study as well as the many visitors that come through its doors. The new branding was launched this week by the College and their new prospectus will be available very soon! We are very proud of the result and hope the people who work and study at Buxton College will be too.

3 Peaks Challenge for First Impression designers

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Dan Collins and Rob Jenkins who both work at First Impression in Glossop are taking up the challenge with Peak Active Sport on bank holiday weekend to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – the 3 highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – within 24 hours!  No mean feat.

And why are they doing it? It’s to raise money for ‘Agapao’ who work in Africa who Peak Active Sport have been closely associated with. Good luck to Dan and Rob and all the Peak Active Sport team members! We’re sure you will do well and will have a few stories to tell on Tuesday, and particularly sore feet…
